The High Moor Region of the Lake Egelsee

Unterach am Attersee, Oberösterreich, Österreich

This trail offers constantly changing landscapes as it winds through scenic forests, meadows and passes by numerous viewpoints on the way to the idyllically situated Lake Egelsee.

The lake, which covers approximately one hectare is about 7 meter deep and originated during the last Ice Age. It is surrounded by a botanically valuable accretion zone. Six insectivorous plants and 12 types of orchids are only examples of the local phytosociologiycal diversity.

Starting out at the shipping pier Stockwinkel, you cross Attersee Bundestraße and hike upwards into the natural preserve Egelsee. Via the restaurant Druckerhof, passing by the skiing lift and down to Menerweg, along the sweet chestnut forest you get back to Unterach. Walk on through Klostergasse to the main square (Hauptplatz) to arrive at the Unterach shipping pier.

Ca. 2 ½- 3 hours, simple hike - altitude difference 200m

Depending on the weather from Easter to October
