Additionally, the Locale Heritage Museum focuses on the history of the local Monastery, founded in 748, and its renowned Writing School. Due to Mondsee´s location right on the shores of Mondsee Lake, fishing has always played an important role in the town´s history. Among the highlights ranks a special exhibition on Meinrad Guggenbichler, a famous master in the art of Baroque sculpture. Exhibits on display in the ancient Monastery´s Library include photographs and documents.
