Every two years, innovative findings and groundbreaking technologies are made accessible to a wide audience for one evening throughout Austria. In 2020, the LNF took place digitally for the first time. In this extraordinary year, 650 video contributions allowed a look behind the scenes of Austrian research for almost three months.

On 24 . May 2024, the Long Night of Research will take place again.

The aim of the LNF is to present science and research in an innovative, understandable and entertaining way with free admission. The programme ranges from pre-scientific work in schools to cutting-edge research, from basic research to flagship projects in application-oriented research and successful innovations from companies. The Long Night of Research has become a fixed point for the open dialogue between science and society. Since 2005, the biennial event with its growing programme has been attracting increasing interest from all sections of the population and age groups. This also makes the LNF a contact exchange where young people can experience the latest developments and technologies in a fun way and get to know training facilities, areas of application and the jobs of the future.
