Discover an Austrian alp by bike

For mountaibikers the Hochalm at the Mondseeberg is easily reachable. Once the monks of the ancient monastery of Mondsee grew cattle at this alp and made delicious cheese from the milk. Today there is no farming at the Hochalm but this allows to enjoy the view and the silence even more.

A little insiders' tip:
From the middle of May at the "Hochalm" (high alp), situated above lake Mondsee,  the lupins are blooming.
Well, normally these plants do not belong to a typical Austrian alp but they are beautiful anyway.

For all bikers who'd like to stop at the alp for a typical Austrian "Brettljause" (snack with bread and products from the alp) we recommend the "Eisenau alp".
The gravel road leading to the alp is suitable for beginners as well as for pros and there is always a lot of traffic. But who wonders - at the alp there are two alpine huts with catering service. It's a must to have a cold drink and an Austrian snack after the climb.
