The Research Institute for Limnology, Mondsee, is an institution of the University of Innsbruck in Upper Austria. The institute mainly carries out basic research in the field of aquatic ecology. The overarching research goal is to understand the evolutionary adaptations of freshwater organisms and the resulting consequences under the influence of climate change and increasing human use. The focus ranges from bacteria to fish to examine patterns and processes of ecological and evolutionary relevance. In addition to basic research, applied research is also carried out at the research institute. The water monitoring and the determination of water quality / water quality are not part of the tasks of the institute. The scientists employed at the institute train students in Mondsee and Innsbruck. The institute is integrated into the global research landscape through international collaborations and research projects.
