Roof renovation of Mondsee basilica
In the 1960s, St Michael's Basilica was covered for the last time with the then innovative and new technical achievement "Eternit". This material has now reached the end of its service life. In order to continue to protect the impressive building and its unique art treasures from the weather, our basilica needs a new roof. On 2 April 2024, after two years of preparation, the official go-ahead was given for this extensive renovation work, which will take around two years. We ask for your understanding that the work on this nationally significant work of art may cause disruption and that there will be no break in the renovation work during the summer months.
The parish of Mondsee has set up an online construction diary where you can find out about the current status and progress - www.diozese-linz.at
There is also a webcam where you can follow the progress of the construction work. You can find it here: Webcam Basilica
