Pile-dwelling pavilions opened as part of the first World Heritage Festival on Lake Attersee and Lake Mondsee

The pile-dwelling pavilions in the three World Heritage communities of Seewalchen, Attersee and Mondsee were opened as part of the first World Heritage Festival.

At the pile-dwelling pavilion in Mondsee, interested visitors were able to find out all about the UNESCO World Heritage Site of pile-dwelling at the information stands in the afternoon. In addition to guided pile-dwelling tours for young and old, cultural mediators from the pile-dwelling museum on Lake Ledro in Italy provided a varied programme for children: making jewellery and clay pots, weaving and body painting, drawing under water and excavating with brushes. The UNESCO Middle School Mondsee catered for the many guests with delicious Stone Age cuisine. In addition to fish soup, lentil stew and flatbread, wheat balls could be savoured. Gerda Weichsler-Hauer, the second President of the Provincial Parliament, gave the keynote speech at the opening ceremony for the Mondsee pile dwelling pavilion.

Following the inauguration of the pavilions, a production entitled "Living Prehistory" took place in the castle gallery. Cultural mediators from the Lake Ledro Pile Dwelling Museum in Italy delighted the numerous visitors with everyday scenes from the Stone Age.
