Is it possible to ice skate on Lake Mondsee and Lake Irrsee in winter?

Lake Mondsee only freezes over every few years and usually not completely, so ice skating on Lake Mondsee is hardly ever possible. Lake Irrsee freezes over every few years and is usually accessible. Please note, however, that our lakes are never "released" for ice skating in winter. Entering is therefore always at your own risk!

From November to February, ice skating is possible in the ice rink regardless of the weather.

Where/when does the Mondsee Advent market take place?

The Advent market takes place on the Advent weekends (Friday-Sunday) on the market square in front of the basilica and in the cloister. We have summarised more information and dates for you on our website under Advent in Mondsee.

Are the museums also open in winter?

The museums in Mondsee are unfortunately closed during the winter months (27 October to 30 April inclusive), but can also be visited by groups outside of opening hours (reservation required!)
