Vacation with the dog

Where can I swim with my dog?

At Mondsee and Irrsee, dogs are not allowed at the public bathing areas for veterinary and sanitary reasons. In accommodations with private bathing areas, the owners decide whether dogs are allowed or not.

There are free access points to the lake at Mondsee that are also suitable for dogs.
Attention lake access Kreuzstein: Parking is only possible at the public bathing area St. Gilgen am Mondsee (approx. 15 minutes walk away)

Important: Guide dogs (certificate required!) are also allowed on public bathing areas!

Am I allowed to let my dog run free or where is a leash compulsory?

In public places in the local area, dogs must be kept on a lead or muzzled (Upper Austrian Dogs Act 2002). Dogs must be kept on a lead or muzzled in schools and kindergartens, on public transport and at many excursion destinations. Special regulations can be issued by the local council - so please take note of the signs on site or enquire in the respective municipality.

Where can I stay overnight with my dog?

Around Lake Mondsee and Lake Irrsee there are accommodations of various categories where dogs are allowed or welcome. Please check the details with the landlord. You can find suitable accommodation here.
