From Bad Mitterndorf, the romantic alpine road Alpenstraße ascends with 8 serpentines and bends up to the mountain pasture Tauplitzalm. As one of the most beautiful alpine roads in Austria, the drive offers impressive panoramic views of the landscape of the picturesque Ausseerland region along with a comfortable ride. The ascent is possible in both summer and winter and brings hikers as well as skiers up to the many slopes and numerous hikes along the crystal-clear mountain lakes all year round.
Over the ten-kilometer-long, romantic Tauplitzalm Alpine Road, the high plateau of the Tauplitzalm is reached, a landscape that is among the most impressive natural jewels of the Alps. Up on the plateau, an impressive mountain backdrop awaits: The mighty mountain Grimming to the south, the mountain range Tote Gebirge to the north, the Dachstein massif to the west, and the distinctive mountains of the Gesäuse to the east.
Whether by your own vehicle, the ski bus, or one of the regular buses: The drive combines great panoramic views with relaxed driving fun. The 8 serpentine curves are particularly appealing to motorcyclists.
Numerous hikes and tours for every fitness level, from leisurely walks to the starting point for challenging mountain tours, can be discovered here. The beautiful alpine landscape invites you to slow down: Cozy inns and quiet huts offer ideal places to rest and enjoy the unique natural surroundings.
In the summer, hikers can leave the car behind and experience nature in its most original form on the largest high lake plateau in Europe and enjoy the fresh mountain air. The Tauplitzalm boasts six crystal-clear mountain lakes, which lie on the plateau like blue eyes in the idyllic landscape. On the 6-lake hike, all mountain lakes along the dreamy Alpine landscape can be explored.
In the winter, visitors can access the 8-person gondola Mitterstein or continue further up to the Tauplitzalm via the alpine road.
