Description: Dear guests,
We are pleased to inform you that the cable car and the mountain and valley stations of the Salzwelten Hallstatt are being renovated. This investment will significantly improve capacity and, above all, comfort for our guests. Please note that cable car operations and the Hallstatt show mine will be temporarily suspended from 1 September 2025.
The new facility will start operating in time for the summer season in June 2026.
During the construction period (1 September 2025 to June 2026), we look forward to welcoming your guests to one of our two other locations - Salzwelten Salzburg & Altaussee - as an alternative.

An unforgettable excursion to the oldest salt mine in the world
The wind gently caresses your face. Lake Hallstatt glistens deep below you. Colorful houses line the shore. You feel the vastness, squint into the sun, enjoy the warmth ... and remember that until recently you were exploring the tunnels in the heart of the mountain. That you were hurtling down wooden miners' slides and following in the footsteps of thousands of years - in the Hallstatt Salt Mine, the oldest salt mine in the world!
After a short walk through the Hallstatt high valley, the Hallstatt Salt Mine welcomes you with a hearty "Glück Auf!". Your exciting journey inside the mountain begins in the miners' house: first you walk into the mountain, where you roam through the tunnels underground with a Salzwelten guide, whizz down the miner's slide and learn exciting stories and facts about salt mining. The oldest salt mine in the world is also home to a record: the oldest wooden staircase in Europe was found in the prehistoric Hallstatt tunnels - built 2,800 years ago! Today, the staircase is the star of the "Bronze Age Cinema" 400 meters underground. In other words, probably the deepest cinema in the world. A speedy ride on the mine train takes you back to daylight.
After you have explored the depths of the mountain, another highlight awaits you - in the truest sense of the word: the Hallstatt Skywalk! A twelve-meter-long walkway that juts out into the void! Do you dare to go all the way to the top? If you dare, an unforgettable view including an adrenaline kick of the world-famous Lake Hallstatt, the UNESCO World Heritage town of Hallstatt and the surrounding mountains awaits you!
