On Friday 24 June 2011, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee declared 111 pile-dwelling sites around the Alps a World Heritage Site.
In April 2013, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites were explored for the Upper Austrian pile dwellings under the leadership of Site Manager Henrik Pohl.
The pile-dwelling pavilions in the three World Heritage communities of Seewalchen, Attersee and Mondsee were opened as part of the first World Heritage Festival.
