hiking
I really wanted to go on this hiking trail/via ferrata, but there's a barrier - what should I do?
Turn back and don't go on it under any circumstances! In cooperation with the alpine clubs, the municipalities and the Austrian Federal Forests, we maintain and care for a hiking trail network of around 200 km. From time to time it may be necessary to temporarily close paths at short notice due to natural disasters such as storms, thunderstorms, etc., hunting or forestry work. In any case, there is a danger to life when walking on a closed path! In the event of any injuries and the resulting need for rescue measures, existing insurances will also cover you. Together with our partners, we endeavor to keep closures as short as possible.
What hikes are there around Lake Mondsee?
There are both leisurely hikes and challenging mountain tours around Lake Mondsee. Some of these paths lead through the forest, but you can also enjoy some fantastic views. In Mondsee, for example, the Mondseeberg invites you to take a leisurely hike, on the southern shore of Lake Mondsee you can head up to the Eisenauer Alm (also possible with children) or on to the Schafberg (very challenging!). To the west of Lake Mondsee, in the municipality of St. Lorenz, striking mountains are waiting to be climbed: Almkogel, Drachenwand and Schober!

How do you get to the Kolomanskirche (oldest wooden church in Austria)?
With the Kolomanskirche (from 1742, wooden construction) on the Kolomansberg, the fourth parish belonging to the Mondsee parish, Tiefgraben, also has a church. However, this is located near the top of the mountain and can only be reached on foot from the Mondsee side. Coming from Thalgau, you can drive over the Thalgauberg to the barrier. Even then, it is still about a 30-minute walk to the wooden church. Due to the restricted military area, it is not possible to drive to the church by car.

Yes, this was completed on the Kulmspitz in 2019 and is located on the Mondseeberg in the municipalities of Innerschwand and Oberwang. There are various hiking trails to the Kulmspitz. One hiking trail (via the forest road) is also possible with a baby carriage.
Are there any hiking trails around Mondsee and Irrsee that are less frequented?
