The impressive building, which impresses with its modern architecture and luxurious furnishings right on the Mondsee lake, welcomed numerous visitors to the grand opening. These included local celebrities and politicians, media representatives, curious travellers and, for example, our priest Reinhard Bell, who blessed the new hotel after a brilliant opening ceremony.
Among the 250 invited guests were of course the owners of the Hargassner family as well as the tenant couple Julia and Daniel Döllerer.
We thought long and hard about what "mission name" we should give the apollo for our blog article, as simply calling it a "hotel" would not do it justice (and it is actually called Achtquartier, but more on that later!).
Hotel and gastronomy is more apt, as the apollo combines no less than three different gastronomic outlets (The Landing Place, The Moon Spot and The Viewing Deck) in addition to its luxurious boutique hotel (The Eight Quarter) under one, well, actually three roofs.
But even this name doesn't quite explain what it's all about, because "on board" is also a modern shipping company, MSMondseeland, not to mention an exclusive flat block (Die Traumstation).
Have we confused you? Don't worry, here are the details of this extensive tourist project, or innovative gravity centre, as owner Anton Hargassner Jr. calls it:
1 apollo Aussichtsdeck - The restaurant on Lake Mondsee
The Aussichtsdeck restaurant offers a journey for the palate. This is where worlds of taste meet: local cuisine, interpreted in a contemporary way and combined with global flavours. Regional products, refined with ideas discovered all over the world.
2apollo Mondfleckerl - Das Wirtshaus am Mondsee
The historic-looking Mondfleckerl inn is a 1:1 reconstruction of the old Mondsee shipping station. Many original parts, such as the historic balcony balustrade, the old pillars of the fireplace parlour or the antique crystal chandelier, have been restored and returned to their original place. The former offices of the railway manager on the first floor now house three luxurious guest rooms with historic balconies (they are part of the "apollo AchtQuartier" hotel).
The Mondfleckerl serves down-to-earth and regional specialities - just as a pub should. The specially bottled apollo beer from the Stiegl company is also served here.
3apollo landing site - the kiosk on Lake Mondsee
The landing site perfectly rounds off the apollo's gastronomic offerings. As an arrival and departure stop for boat travellers, visitors to the playground opposite and for walkers and strollers, it offers a small but fine range of snacks and refreshments for young and old, whether hungry or in between.

With eight rooms, named after the Apollo 8 flight, the first manned space flight by the Americans. And as with the moon mission, two worlds have been combined here. Three rooms are in a completely rebuilt, listed building, five in a modern new building. What all eight rooms have in common: A feel-good atmosphere, charming details, exclusive furnishings and fantastic views of Lake Mondsee.
Did someone say year-round heated infinity pool with lake view? Yes, that's right, in addition to a sauna, private bathing area and the feeling of having landed in the right place.
Another highlight of the hotel is the integration of boat trips into the offer. Guests have the opportunity to explore Lake Mondsee directly from the hotel's own jetty. The completely renovated and modernised MS Mondseeland is the largest passenger ship on Lake Mondsee. With high-end technology, elegant interior design and lots of ideas - for example, it is the only ship in the world to be heated with environmentally friendly pellets.
