Church of St. Lorenz

St. Lorenz am Mondsee, Oberösterreich, Österreich
  • Suitable for groups
  • Suitable for pushchairs

The St. Lorenz church is close to the "Drachenwand" of dragonwall mountain face.

It is late roman in origin and was first documented in 1384. It was originally a wooden church but assumed its current form in 1732 when it was blessed by the bishop of Passau. 52 years later the community of St. Lorenz became a seperate parish. Alongside the St. Lorenz church is a natural monument - a 400 years old lime tree - another symbol of strenght.

Travelling along the road towards the Drachenwand reveals the mystical "dragon hole" at the top of the edge of the mountain which is said to have been created by the devil. The Fuschler Ache river emphasises the magic of this landscape and is crossed by visitors heading to the Drachenwand.
